On successful completion of our training programme, trainees will be awarded:

 

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

 

Trainee teachers will demonstrate their knowledge and understanding, skills and attributes, and intellectual and cognitive skills through their ability to:

 

  • be critical, reflective, inspirational and innovative in their approach to classroom practice

  • be engaged in professional understanding which synthesises theory and practice

  • demonstrate approaches in the classroom, taking risks, making decisions in complex and unpredictable situations

  • demonstrate a range of evaluative skills needed to reflect on the impact on classroom performance of different teaching strategies and models of professional learning

  • cater for the diversity of pupil and groups in different contexts

  • build effective and respectful relationships with children in order to ensure that individuals realise their full potential spiritually, morally, socially, emotionally and in terms of attainment

  • understand the structures and frameworks for organising and managing primary education and an understanding of cultural, political and social factors affecting these

  • understand the content of and related pedagogy for different subject areas within the primary curriculum

  • employ a range of strategies for the effective organisation and management of resources, staff and  time, in order to create a successful learning environment and engagement of the learner

  • understand the importance of being both part of a team in school and the wider community

  • access information from a range of sources in order to develop their learning and teaching

    using a range of problem solving and research skills

  • identify connections between education policy, research findings and classroom practice

  • critically evaluate research and policy and argue alternative approaches

  • combine their studies and practical experience in school in presenting written assignments, seminar papers or presentations using other media and technologies

  • reflect on themselves as learners and teachers, analyse strengths and needs and set targets for continued development

  • model the highest standards of personal and professional conduct, values and behaviour

  • engage with their continuing professional development

  • understand the full scope of the teacher’s professional role and the contribution of on-going research; including the ability to take responsibility for their future learning and development.
